Maui Sushi Review:
Oao – Sushi Bar & Grill at Wailea
As a Maui resident, my wife and I recently dined twice at Oao Maui Sushi Bar & Grill in Wailea, and both experiences were nothing short of extraordinary. Conveniently located at Wailea Gateway, Oao offers an inviting ambiance perfect for a lively dinner date.

Oao First Impressions
From the moment we stepped up, the staff’s warm hospitality set the tone for a fun evening. On our first visit, we indulged in the chef’s Choice Sashimi Platter, featuring the freshest catch meticulously prepared. The flavors were rich, showcasing the high quality of local fish and the authenticity of imported ingredients, such as the rice vinegar directly from Japan. Both times we visited, it was packed! So it’s a good idea to make reservations well ahead of time.

One Good Turn Deserves Another
On our second visit, we decided to explore more of the menu, choosing dishes like the tempura and teriyaki specialties. Each dish was a testament to Oao’s dedication to fresh, local, and quality offerings. The happy hour specials from 3 to 5 PM are a fantastic opportunity to enjoy premium sushi at a more accessible price.

Beyond getting our sush on, the restaurant’s atmosphere adds to the overall experience. The decor is modern yet cozy, making it an ideal spot for both casual and special occasions. The addition of a liquor license now allows diners to enjoy a curated selection of wines and sake.
